Lessons in Love Taught by Monkeys? by emery myers

“Gibbons are the nearest relatives to humans that mate for life and are dedicated SOUL MATES for life. They form extremely strong pair bonds and exhibit low sexual dimorphism, which means that males and females of the species are of roughly equal size, a testament to the fact that both sexes are on relatively equal footing. The coupled male and female will spend time grooming each other and (literally) hanging out together in the trees.” But…there is always a but! Let’s explore some of the complexities of love… Click here for source article.

These monkeys aren’t without fault though. Infidelity, sickness, death… They have many of the same relationship hangups and issues that we humans do! Gibbons are guilty of philandering and even sometimes dumping a mate, just as humans do! You see…humans aren’t the only animals that pay a gargantuan, emotional price to find…a true soul-mate!

Soul-mate… So easy a Gibbon monkey can figure it out? The good news is… Yes! You can figure this out…but it won’t be easy… success at anything in life requires a tremendous amount of dedication, trust, nurturing, patience, love and empathy. Without these important ingredients in your soul-soup, you will never know what it is, to be someone’s soul-mate.

She’s my soul-mate dude!” I have heard many friends utter these words incoherently. Hell, I have been guilty of prematurely blurting this very statement! Soul-mate is a term tickling the tongue of every love-sick person in the universe…like a gentle, yet annoying itch, which can never be fully satisfied by simply scratching. Love really is a collection of symptoms…a syndrome of the spirit!

Before something can be found, it has to be lost…this hurts, but is part of our journey. Image from http://www.pickthebrain.com via Google Images

I know from my own past experience, or I should say, from my own past, personal naivety, how people hope for the best, but don’t prepare for the worst, when swept up in the passion-filled, fiery tornado, that IS a new relationship. It’s a bizarre state of affairs. We usually hope for the best, but prepare for the worst in our daily lives. We go against reason and common-sense-gut-feeling, carelessly abandoning any self-preservation instinct.

You may feel as though, finding your soul-mate is harder than finding the leprechaun’s fabled pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.   It took me over 3 decades to find my leprechaun, and track down his treasure! I had all but given up on love…then my mind was blown, as I discovered there really is a pot of gold and treasure at the end of the rainbow…I just had to be willing to search faithfully, diligently and with an open heart… I had to lose that fear of being hurt, which did make me feel quite vulnerable.

Again, we circle back to the subject at hand…Soul-mates. How do you know if you are truly, with your soul-mate? These two words are nothing more than a term, until you experience the REAL definition…until you feel the happiness, sadness, inspiration, shock and awe…the twists and turns, pains and elations…romance and frustration…the whole damn gambit of emotions!

Lastly, a true soul-mate is a spiritual gift, if you will… It’s the fantastic, electrical connection between two people…it is so much more than a physical connection… A true soul-mate accepts you at your worst and pushes you to be the best version of you possible! A real soul-mate is an organic masterpiece…as natural, refreshing and life-giving as rain!  I mean really, who can argue with this amazing, loving, peaceful man… “Some people feel the rain, others just get wet.” ~Bob Marley

Dedicated to my beautiful soul-mate, my everything, my Kenzie. She always challenges me to be a better version of me! I love you Kenzie!
