Historic Taverns Unearthed in New York City

NEW YORK, NEW YORK—An excavation in Lower Manhattan has unearthed liquor bottles, plates, and mugs from a nineteenth-century German beer garden that was known as Atlantic Garden, and the colonial-era Bull’s Head Tavern, built in the 1740s by a butcher near New York City’s first slaughterhouse. “The Atlantic Garden was actually a tourist destination in its day—it was known for its German food and beer, and as a place for music and parties. It was built over the Bull’s Head Tavern, a place where travelers, many selling their cattle, stopped in for food, drink, to socialize or spend the night,” Alyssa Loorya, president of Chrysalis Archaeology, told DNAinfo New York. The site is located along The Bowery, which was once the only road in and out of Manhattan.

“I can tell you that Fred Phelps is having some health problems,” Drain said. “He’s an old man and old people get health problems.”

In his Facebook post, Nathan Phelps, who left the church 37 years ago, said Westboro excommunicated his father in August.

“I’m not sure how I feel about this. Terribly ironic that his devotion to god ends this way. Destroyed by the monster he made,” Nathan Phelps wrote in the post, which had been shared more than 1,000 times as of Sunday night.
“I feel sad for all the hurt he’s caused so many. I feel sad for those who will lose the grandfather and father they loved.”
Westboro members frequently protest at the funerals of American soldiers with signs bearing messages like “Thank God for dead soldiers” and “Thank God for 9/11,” claiming the deaths are divine punishment for the country’s tolerance of homosexuality.

The church’s sick activities inspired a federal law limiting protests at funerals for soldiers along with numerous state restrictions on picketing at funeral sites.
Just Wednesday, a federal judge upheld a Missouri law requiring protestors to stay at least 300 feet away from funeral sites.
But Westboro won a First Amendment victory in 2011 when the U.S. Supreme Court said church members couldn’t be sued for money damages for inflicting pain on grieving families.

What is a counterfeit? Let Generation X answer that!

Counterfeit...It's much more than money!
Counterfeit…It’s much more than money!

What is a counterfeit you may ask? Is it the text-book definition:

coun·ter·feit

[koun-ter-fit]  Show IPA

adjective

1.

made in imitation so as to be passed off fraudulently or  deceptively as genuine; not genuine; forged:counterfeit dollar bills.
2.

pretended; unreal: counterfeit grief.
noun

3.

an imitation intended to be passed off fraudulently or  deceptively as genuine; forgery.
4.

Archaic. a copy.
5.

Archaic. a close likeness; portrait.
6.

Obsolete . impostor; pretender.
Okay…that is the official Dictionary definition taken from HERE.
Now here is generation Xer’s definition of Counterfeit:

Enough said! Don’t be a Counterfeit! Be You and Don’t LET ANYBODY TELL YOU that being you is wrong! Their will be people, along your journey, that will backstab you. Some of these people will be close, probably even family. It’s okay to exclude these types of people from your lives…after all, it is YOUR LIFE. If someone brings nothing but anger and negativity into your life, then separate them from your life.

Life is too short to live other-wise. Embrace those who truly love you, for those are the people who would truly, NEVER HURT you or yours!

Wisdom is individual, personal and sacred!

Wisdom is defined as:  “the quality or state of being wise; knowledge of what is true  or right coupled with just judgment as to action; sagacity, discernment, or insight.”  2. scholarly knowledge or learning: the wisdom of the schools. 3. wise sayings or teachings; precepts.      4. a wise act or saying.

I have no opinion to offer on religion in this article but I do enjoy some of the Bible’s verses. I enjoy Shakespeare as well! I enjoy the way some of the verses read, like poetry…other biblical verses…ehh, not so much.

The image below, is a very important lesson to learn about, False Prophets. Life will show you false prophets every day. Ultimately, some of these false prophets are our family members and friends. This explanation is logical and has to be learned to advance to Wisdom and avoid being a “False Prophet”!

False Prophets are really just narcissistic bung holes. Aggressive, abusive, insulting, lying, manipulating, never accepting of blame and many times, completely illogical! These type of people are usually self-proclaimed Christians and usually attend Church routinely. This is not meant to be a negative remark about religion at all, rather stating fact that, False Prophets are scientifically proven to be hyper-religious narcissists. I am being real and not sugar-coating the truth. We all know this is the real truth. Learning this and understanding this is wisdom!

Wisdom. What is it?
Wisdom. What is it?

Wisdom for me, is progression in life, always learning. Never reaching a point, where you feel you know more, than others in your peer group, or out of you peer group.

True Wisdom is Never condemning others for their opinions…respectfully disagreeing but not hate or anger…that is not progression that would be regression! Better to ignore than attack an unexpected victim of your own guilt and hate.

Sun Tzu, The Art of War, doesn’t it say something about “respecting the enemy”. I find this line of thinking as very wise. Treat others as you want treated, even people you despise!

I know I am nowhere near the smartest guy writing a blog. I understand I am not near as good of a writer as millions of other bloggers… The one thing I am is real. I am speaking freely and being real. Here is my real opinion on some of the ingredients to true wisdom:

Wisdom is tolerance. Tolerance of all others despite personal beliefs and differences. If you don’t understand this simple statement, you have more soul-searching…

Wisdom is empathy. Without empathy, human beings cannot respect, love and understand each other. A plant without water, withers and dries, the human spirit slowly dries and dies without Empathy!

Bob Marley Wisdom
Bob Marley Wisdom

Bob Marley always had a magical way with his words, that have inspired me to strive, to live simple, and love more. I am trying not to judge others and their situations. None of us truly know what is going on in a home or with another person/persons. We hide things from each other all the time. Judge not! I am not religious but I believe in this statement and try to live by it! I guess that is a little bit of wisdom…I’m learning…always!

I mean absolutely no offense with this article and feel, if a person believes in their religion, they should not feel threatened by this question(s). If you are easily angered by religious questions please feel free to leave the conversation! I find religion extremely interesting in the influence, it seems to exert over the human psyche.

For this weeks Bible Study, I wanted to start with (Exodus 21:7-11 NLT) Sex Slaves: Taken directly from the bible; “When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she will not be freed at the end of six years as the men are.  If she does not please the man who bought her, he may allow her to be bought back again.  But he is not allowed to sell her to foreigners, since he is the one who broke the contract with her.  And if the slave girl’s owner arranges for her to marry his son, he may no longer treat her as a slave girl, but he must treat her as his daughter.  If he himself marries her and then takes another wife, he may not reduce her food or clothing or fail to sleep with her as his wife.  If he fails in any of these three ways, she may leave as a free woman without making any payment.”   (Exodus 21:7-11 NLT)

Can ANYONE, and I mean anyone, explain this to me? It is wrong on SO many levels. I don’t need a 2000-year-old copy of the world’s biggest selling fiction novella, ever, to tell me it is NUTs! Really, the above verse is REAL and from the bible. How does that fit in any time? It has always been wrong. Perverse, disgusting, immoral…to say the least. Please, explain this Verse to me so that I may understand! Richard Dawkins seems to make much more sense to me!

Sex Slaves: Taken directly from the bible; “When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she will not be freed at the end of six years as the men are.

That’s right, I posted it again. I can’t wrap my head around this. Even if I didn’t believe in Science’s explanations, this would end any chance of religion for me. I know some people will think “It was a different time!” and I will say “There used to be a time when it was accepted practice to sell girls as sex slaves, use them and give them to your son and then consider them your daughter?” That is crazy! Immoral and sick! Why would anyone follow a God that inspired this word that is printed in the Bible?

I would love to hear a scientific explanation of this “Verse  (Exodus 21:7-11 NLT). I would request that the words “faith” and the phrase “that’s the way it was back then”, or, “it was a different time then” not be used as a matter of scientific principle. We should all agree that this verse from (Exodus 21:7-11 NLT) is in the bible, correct? I just want a real, tangible explanation for this verse.

I am curious and admittedly, anti-theist at this point. If you have scientific proof, then please, I would be very glad to hear from you. I appreciate any and all conversation on the subject and will have the next “Bible-Study” next Sunday Evening!

Mr. Mitch Holmes is stuck in the 1920s. He must not believe in science because he is down right ignorant when it comes to medical marijuana and the thousands of patients that want it. He is afraid of REEFER MADNESS… Just another antiquated good old boy! Church on Sunday morning and NRA meetings on Sunday evening.

Don’t we want more in Kansas! This guy is blocking the Cannabis Compassion and Care Act because of his own personal feelings. Our Douche award goes to…. Mr. Holmes!

He is just trying to get elected by avoiding any conflicting issues facing Kansans. Does he really think that blocking this will help? It will help Big Pharma, which he puts all his cards in that hand, and it helps is election possibilities.

He is just trying to get a job! LISTEN TO THE PEOPLE Mr. Holmes! Not 80 year old farmers, but the young as well!        Generation X…LISTEN! We NEED to quit electing the same, robot-like conservatives that paint a perfect picture with Jesus, lambs and peace…and then they lie out the other side of their mouths!
