The United States Government’s Hypocritical, Sorry and VERY dated incorrect information on Marijuana.

The latest American Governments take on Marijuana: Warning, the science on this information is out-dated! It is likened to the government movie: Reefer Madness;

Q.  Isn’t marijuana generally harmless?

No.  Marijuana is classified as a Schedule I drug, meaning it has a high potential for abuse and no currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States. The main active chemical in marijuana is delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, more commonly called THC.  THC acts upon specific sites in the brain, called cannabinoid receptors, starting off a series of cellular reactions that ultimately lead to the “high” that users experience when they smoke marijuana.  Some brain areas have many cannabinoid receptors; others have few or none.  The highest density of cannabinoid receptors are found in parts of the brain that influence pleasure, memory, thinking, concentrating, sensory and time perception, and coordinated movement.

Marijuana’s “high” can affect these functions in a variety of ways, causing distorted perceptions, impairing coordination, causing difficulty with thinking and problem solving, and creating problems with learning and memory.  Research has demonstrated that among chronic heavy users these effects on memory can last at least seven days after discontinuing use of the drug.

These aren’t the only problems connected to marijuana use.  Research tells us that chronic marijuana use mayincrease the risk of schizophrenia in vulnerable individuals, and high doses of the drug can produce acute psychotic reactions.  Researchers have also found that adolescents’ long-term use of marijuana may be linked with lower IQ(as much as an 8 point drop) later in life.

We also know that marijuana affects heart and respiratory functions.  In fact, one study found that marijuana users have a nearly five-fold increase in the risk of heart attack in the first hour after smoking the drug.  A study of 452 marijuana smokers (but who did not smoke tobacco) and 450 non-smokers (of either marijuana or tobacco) found that people who smoke marijuana frequently but do not smoke tobacco have more health problems, including respiratory illnesses, than nonsmoker. ~This is completely untrue. 21st century methods including pill form, edibles, vaporizing…all much safer!~ This is all very, very dated information!

All that stated, a recent study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) found that low levels of marijuana use (with no tobacco use) produced no detrimental effect in lung function among study participants.  In fact, exposure led to a mild, but not clinically significant, beneficial effect—albeit among those who smoked only one joint per day.  While these findings have received wide attention from the media and from advocates of marijuana legalization, it is important to consider them in the context of the extensive body of research indicating that smoking marijuana is harmful to health.  Additionally, while the study did not include a sufficient number of heavy users of marijuana to confirm a detrimental effect of such use on pulmonary function, the findings suggest this possibility.

The harms of marijuana use can also manifest in users’ quality of life.  In one study, heavy marijuana users reported that the drug impaired several important measures of health and quality of life, including physical and mental health, cognitive abilities, social life, and career status.

Marijuana is the most commonly used illicit drug in the United States.  In 2011 alone, more than 18 million Americans age 12 and older reported using the drug within the past month.  Approximately 4.2 million people met the diagnostic criteria for abuse of or dependence on this drug.  This is more than pain relievers, cocaine, tranquilizers, hallucinogens, and heroin combined.

There are very real consequences associated with marijuana use.  In 2010, marijuana was involved in more than461,000 emergency department visits nationwide.  This is nearly 39 percent of all emergency department visits involving illicit drugs, and highlights the very real dangers than can accompany use of the drug.

And in 2011, approximately 872,000 Americans 12 or older reported receiving treatment for marijuana use, more than any other illicit drug.  Despite some viewpoints that marijuana is harmless, these figures present a sobering picture of this drug’s very real and serious harms.

Marijuana places a significant strain on our health care system, and poses considerable danger to the health and safety of the users themselves, their families, and our communities.  Marijuana presents a major challenge for health care providers, public safety professionals, and leaders in communities and all levels of government seeking to reduce the drug use and its consequences throughout the country. ~courtesy of: http://www.whitehouse.gov/ondcp/frequently-asked-questions-and-facts-about-marijuana#harmless

Although alcohol, prescription drugs, alcohol and tobacco are not as serious because they are legal? Just because Tobacco is legal are there more people smoking? Actually the numbers have declined drastically…this is due to EDUCATION, which in my state of Kansas, drug programs are not affordable to the government due to the costs of running prisons and such! INSANITY!

Freedom…Isn’t that what we all crave? Should we have to crave freedom over our own bodies in America? It IS the 21st century! Republicans need to understand that. The new generations aren’t interested in their bullshit!

Colorado’s pot policies provide an exit strategy for the nation.

Colorado’s pot policies provide an exit strategy for the nation.

Despite over 70 years of federal prohibition, tens of thousands of people throughout the nation are right now purchasing marijuana. But only in Colorado are these transactions legal, regulated, and taxed. The product being marketed is of known quality and potency. The seller is not a black-market dealer; rather, he or she is a paid employee of a licensed business explicitly authorized to engage in such transactions. The profits from these transactions bring fiscal benefits to the local community, not the black-market economy.

For decades public officials have warned that regulating cannabis production, sales, and consumption was a practical impossibility and that any significant change in marijuana policy would cause the sky to fall. Yet the initial experience in Colorado has shown these beliefs to be misplaced. State officials can regulate cannabis in a manner that satisfies the seller, the consumer, and the taxman. This common sense regulatory framework, otherwise known as legalization, is preferable to cannabis criminalization, a doomed-to-fail public policy which burdens taxpayers, encroaches upon civil liberties, engenders disrespect for the law, and disproportionately impacts lower income classes and ethnic minorities who bear the brunt of cannabis arrests and prosecutions. The time has come to replace marijuana prohibition with public policies that properly regulate the cannabis market and that allow for pot’s private consumption by adults in a manner similar to alcohol and tobacco.

Regulations, such as age restrictions for consumers and licensing requirements for commercial producers and merchants, are effective and proven alternatives to prohibition. For example, the public’s overall consumption of alcohol and tobacco, and young people’s use in particular, now stand at near-historic lows. These results have been achieved not by imposing blanket criminalization upon society, but by legalization, regulation, and public education. Colorado (and soon-to-be Washington) lawmakers are now applying these tried and true principles to cannabis. Public officials should welcome bringing these necessary and long-overdue controls to the cannabis market. A pragmatic regulatory framework that allows for the legal, licensed commercial production and retail sale of cannabis to adults but restricts its use among young people — coupled with a legal environment that fosters open, honest dialogue between parents and children about cannabis’ potential harms — best reduces the risks associated with the plant’s use or abuse. The ongoing criminalization of cannabis only compounds these risks.

Ancient Cannabis…the plant continues to endure, treat and cure illness and disease!

CANNABIS CURES CANCER and Big Pharma Has the Patent to Prove it!
CANNABIS CURES CANCER and Big Pharma Has the Patent to Prove it!

Could it be…the herb that has been used safely for thousands of years, BY HUMAN-BEINGS, amongst many other biological members of our natural world…CURES CANCER? I don’t understand what the dilemma is here. The plant has been proven scientifically, but still remains a taboo to the far right, republican, tea-bagging idiots!

If I were to make a reasonable deduction with the information above…it seems to me, that religion is hindering the treatment of millions of Americans by being the “popular” vote in big government!” This does not come as much of a surprise to most of us, considering the U.S. is the largest Christian country in the world and that is fact, not anything else. There are many good Christians out there, don’t get me wrong. I am not so much trying to attack religion, as I am just verifying, that science does take the proverbial “back seat” to religion, in our government and the way they pass laws for all of us.

The people of our country generally know what they want for themselves as individuals. Americans generally accept others very readily and for the most part, are very good, hard-working and honest people. This is what I want to believe anyways…I hope there aren’t that many stupid people in my country! It’s the government that slows things down and hinders freedom…based greatly, on religious beliefs. I know many agnostic and atheist individuals that are THE definition of good neighbor. Maybe people like these would be better suited for government office and apply more science in decision-making. Regardless, we NEED more science and less judgment by people who don’t have a clue, like most of our politicians!

Religion has been a hinderance to our progression as a species in many ways, that the original writers of the bible, did not intend. It has to be religion keeping this medicinal plant, this natural treatment, from  millions of Americans in need. The science is in…and SCIENTISTS almost ALL AGREE, that Cannabis is a highly beneficial plant, capable of treating MANY diseases and ailments with far fewer side effects than BIG PHARMA’s infinite listings of medications! Not only is the plant an excellent medication but it is also used for everything listed in the table below and has been…for thousands and thousands of years!

Marijuana uses throughout the centuries

This natural plant has been taken away from all of the hard-working, law-abiding, peaceful Americans in the United States of America! I support President Obama, but SHAME on him for not assisting Americans with legalization of this PLANT!

Black people are profiled!
This graph shows the racial disparity between the different ethnic groups.

Prohibition and the WAR ON DRUGS has been a tragically lost war…on THE BLACKS and THE POOR! The U.S. imports a tremendous amount of industrial hemp when our very own, first president of the United States of America, George Washington, farmed Hemp! The Constitution is Written on HEMP PAPER! This is just INSANE to me!

The Smoke Eaters at the Temple at Thebes...Egyptions, thousands of years ago using Cannabis for medical and spiritual needs as human beings.

How can our Egyptian ancestors have designed the greatest monument ever built and used marijuana? Marijuana benefits are NEVER points of drug education and Marijuana. The Great Pyramid still stands, thousands of years after being built and guess what? Cannabis is still used every single day of the year, by millions of people, around the globe!

The Cannabinoids in the Cannabis plant are very beneficial for inflammation, which is a major component in many chronic diseases. Chronic inflammation leads to chronic disease.

Medical Marijuana, or Cannabis as I like to refer to it, treats many medical and psychological conditions. Particularly interesting is how well Cannabis treats PTSD or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, which we have hundreds of thousands soldiers diagnosed with PTSD due to our government’s decisions, right or wrong, it is because these Americans pay the way for the elected officials. All big corporations, big government and the elected politicians, lobbyists, lawyers, etc…live off the blood and sweat of the average American. We are the back-bone and WE should be heard! Cannabis is a schedule 1 drug, making it as bad as heroin, in the government’s classification system. Alcohol isn’t a schedule 1 drug but it does so much more damage than any of the illegal drugs. Don’t get me wrong, I agree that there needs to be controls on the dangerous drugs, but I completely disagree with the Federal Government’s outdated and just plain WRONG information on Cannabis as a medication. It is absurd, to say the least.

While Cannabis is still completely illegal under Federal Law, 20+ states have now either dicriminalized or moved to medical marijuana models. 2 states, Washington and Colorado, went for recreational legalization as well! It's about time!

We are making some headway in the fight to legalize the plant, Cannabis! You can see the states that are red, are also mainly Republican states…driven by religion, not science. Kansas doesn’t even accept evolution as a possibility! If you listen to the current Governor speak, every other word is God! He spoke at the Governors state to state dinner last night, I listened, I counted the word God at least 9 times in 30 minutes.

You can’t tell me, religion is just a mouse in the room…IT IS THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM!

The medicine was proven effective before science existed. Science put a stamp on what humans already knew!
The medicine was proven effective before science existed. Science put a stamp on what humans already knew!

Antibacterial, pain-relief, nausea relief, anti-epileptic, ANTI-CANCER! What more do we need? We have the scientific data! We have the double-blind, placebo studies…decades of studies! Medical Marijuana has been legal in California since 1997! Many other countries have been decades ahead of us in the scientific studies on Cannabis…not a shocker as we all know how conservative and slow our government processes can be…and this is all due to lack of science. Too much pride and personal views influencing politics…much larger than that, is the money from big industry and Big Pharma!

Weed-table: A history of weed!
Weed-table: A history of weed! It’s just a plant…that does not harm humans. Human Beings have an Endocannabinoid system hardwired in physiologically. We have cell receptor sites specifically for Cannabinoids! The science is in!

The history, the science…should be enough shouldn’t it? If we approach this plant as we do Hops, Barley, Wheat and Tobacco, we wouldn’t even be speaking about it right now. It’s a plant that needs no processing like alcohol and tobacco. It can be grown, dried and used for medicine!

I am an insulin dependent diabetic. My youngest child has Crohn’s disease and is on very harmful chemotherapy drugs. Cannabis, if it was legal, can be grown with hardly any psychoactive THC and almost all CBD. CBDs are cannabidiols…these reduce inflammation and treat Crohn’s, insulin dependent diabetes, high blood pressure, PTSD, alcohol withdrawal syndrome, and the list goes on and on. You can search this website for more articles and links to all of the benefits being held from Americans.

If this plant can treat epilepsy as effectively as it does...why are we keeping it from so many Americans?
If this plant can treat epilepsy as effectively as it does…why are we keeping it from so many Americans?

The science is in and it indicates the Cannabis plant is an effective medication. This should move it out of the Government’s scheduled 1 category. There are many known medical uses. These several, simple sentences are fact and should change the laws regarding its schedule and it’s use! Freedom should not be illegal!
